Tanaka Foods was founded in 1901 in Kure. Initially, the company manufactured pickles, tsukudani (simmered seafood/seaweed), and miso. During the Meiji era, the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy requested the development of portable, long-lasting preserved foods. This led to the birth of “Ryoko no Tomo,” our first furikake (rice seasoning), in 1904. Beyond furikake, the company also created various foods closely tied to daily life through innovative ideas, such as canned instant miso soup.
The background of this product development was driven by a parent’s unwavering devotion: “My own children and those of my acquaintances are doing their best on the front lines. I want them to have access to delicious, highly nutritious food anytime so they never struggle with hunger.” Our furikake is a product born from the love of a parent thinking of their child. This sentiment is the very tradition and origin of Tanaka Foods.
Ryoko No Tomo Series
This furikake features powdered small fish seasoned with soy sauce, providing a rich source of calcium, DHA, and EPA. In October 2025, we launched our new product, “Maku Furikake Ryoko no Tomo”
Ryoko No Tomo Maze Gohan
Ryoko No Tomo is now available as seasoning for maze gohan (mixed rice). Featuring delicious wakame seaweed and colorful vegetables, it is perfect for bringing out the flavor and color of dishes ranging from pasta to aemono (dressed salads).
Sekai no Tomo
This is a delicious rice seasoning made from powdered small fish seasoned with soy sauce and sugar. Based on our classic “Ryoko no Tomo,” this product is specially formulated for export, containing no artificial colors or meat extracts.
