In 1922, Otafuku Sauce Co., Ltd. was founded under the name of “Sasaki Shoten” as a wholesaler of alcoholic beverages and soy sauces. Today, we produce and sell various types of sauces and bastes for both professional and household use, including our main products, Okonomi sauce, Yakisoba sauce and Takoyaki sauce. We also promote Hiroshima Okonomiyaki culture throughout Japan and the world through operation of the “WoodEgg Okonomiyaki Museum” which opened in 2008.

“WoodEgg Okonomiyaki Museum”

This is a museum and facility that provides training to assist in the opening of Okonomiyaki restaurants, and serves as a source of information regarding Okonomiyaki. The facility is equipped with large grills capable of allowing 28 people to cook Okonomiyaki at the same time.

Otafuku “Okonomi Sauce”

Otafuku launched a Worcester sauce in 1950, but as we were a latecomer to the industry, restaurants were reluctant to use our product. Under the circumstances, we had no choice but to approach local restaurants directly almost on a daily basis and ask them to sample our products. One day, an Okonomiyaki restaurant owner told us of a problem he faced, saying that “thin sauces tend to run off the grill.” Taking hints from our repeated discussions with the restaurant owner, we gradually improved the flavor and thickness of our sauce and developed a sauce dedicated to Okonomiyaki. Thus, our Okonomi Sauce was born.
