Yamadaya was founded as a manufacturer of “Momiji Manju” in Miyajima in 1932. Since then, we have continued to this day under our corporate philosophy of “cherishing each confection made,” and “the satisfaction of customers” has always been our pride and joy. Our Momiji Manju originally consisted of only one type that was filled with a smooth Azuki bean jam, but today, we manufacture about 20 different types (including seasonal products). In 1997, our former president (second generation), Isao Yamada, developed and launched “Toyoka,” a confection which uses glutinous flour for a unique texture. This confection has received positive reviews from our customers, and is now our second representative confection next to our Momiji Manju.

“Toyoka”

The grand master of Ueda Sokoryu, an art of ceremonial tea-making from Hiroshima, turned to us for advice on the development of souvenir sweets associated with his art. We recommended a round manju which would become the precursor to our Toyoka, and he was immensely satisfied. The grand master’s suggestion that the manju be square-shaped in the “image of a floor cushion” lead to the current shape of Toyoka.
Toyoka is a soft lightly flavored sponge cake made of glutinous flour filled with our our unique Azuki bean jam. Its mild taste is well-suited as an accompaniment to tea.

Toyoka does not become hard even when refrigerated and maintains its doughiness, allowing you to enjoy a pleasantly chilled texture.
