Opened in Onomichi City in 2004, Saikobo, Ltd. hand-produces bags from Hanpu canvas, an Onomichi specialty. Hanpu canvas is a 100% natural canvas material. Its name comes from the Japanese for “sail cloth”, as its strength has seen it used for the sails of boats. At Saikobo, Ltd., we believe that bags should be made for their owner, so we make our bags to order.

Ransack

Canvas backpacks were a common sight in Onomichi until the 1960s. We revived this iconic style with our Ransack series (a portmanteau of the Japanese words for “satchel” and “backpack”) in 2013, using those classic canvas satchels as a base and updating them with features seen in modern-day backpacks.
Made with strong, soft natural Hanpu canvas, this series combines the robust storage of the classic boxy satchel with the functionality of a backpack. The belt can be adjusted to suit all ages.
