“Fukutome Wholesale Meats,” which was established by Tomeji Fukuhara in Fukushima-cho, Hiroshima City in 1919, was the parent organization of Fukutome Meat Packers, Ltd. and by bringing in Osamu Nakajima (the company’s first President), who was also his son-in-law, the company began full-scale production of ham and sausage. In 1948, Fukutome Meat Packers Ltd. was established and manufacturing of “pressed ham,” “real intestine sausage” and “sausage blocks” were the company’s core products back then.
In 1952, in order to supply special sausage for the cherry blossom viewing season, we developed a “Flower Sausage” that was molded into the shape of a cherry blossom. Although a high-end seasonal item, our Flower Sausage became popular throughout the year as a side dish for lunch boxes not only for cherry blossom viewing but also for excursions including hiking and picnics since it was appreciated for its lucky shape.
In 1958, the company was reorganized into a stock company. The company name, “Fukutome Meat Packers Ltd.” was named after the founder, “Tomeji Fukuhara,” and was adopted as the company name wishing for happiness, prosperity and growth in the future and so that fortune would be extended to society as a whole. We challenge to “build a company that brings fortune to society,” based on the philosophy that “there is fortune in food.”
“Flower Sausage”
Drawing inspiration from kamaboko (fish cakes), commonly seen in the New Year’s dish, “osechi,” development of our Flower Sausage overcame marketing difficulties including mass production issues and issues in obtaining pepper used in making sausage during completion. Taking on the shape of a cherry blossom when sliced, our Flower Sausage will gorgeously add color to dishes and lunch boxes. With its soft texture and mild salt and pepper flavor, our Flower Sausage is a unique product, and is the No. 1 product of Fukutome Meat Packers.
“Real Intestine Sausage”
Real intestine sausages are one of Fukutome Meat Packer Ltd.’s longest sellers, and have been in production since the establishment of the company. Finely-ground pork and chicken meat are used as raw materials.
“Coarsely-Ground Pork Wieners”
Focusing on consumer trends seeking high-end products in the mid-1980s, we pioneered development of coarsely-ground pork wieners ahead of the competition, resulting in a big hit that dominated the market. Adopting the red torii gate of Miyajima, a symbol of Hiroshima, we were able to create an elegant package.
