In 1949, Matsuo Food Industry was reorganized as Matsuo Food Processing Co., Ltd. in Hiroshima. In 1955, the company name was changed to Calbee Foods and Confectionery Co., Ltd. The name, “Calbee,” was coined from the combination of “Cal” from calcium and “Bee” from vitamin B1, and represents the Company’s aim to produce healthy snacks and foods.
In 1955, Calbee succeeded in developing techniques to produce Arare crackers from wheat flour, and launched “Kappa Ebisen” in 1964 shortly after the launch of “Kappa Arare.” In 1973, the Company changed its name to its current name, and while its head office was moved to Tokyo, the company has a production factory in Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima that produces “Kappa Ebisen” and “Potato Chips.” Calbee has expanded its business in not only Japan but overseas as well, and its products are loved by people throughout Asia, including Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand and Singapore, as well as in America.

“Kappa Ebisen”

Calbee’s most cherished and longest selling product. Kappa Ebisen contains natural, whole unshelled shrimp and is rich in calcium. It has a taste that you’ll never grow tired of and its crispy texture will keep you coming back for more.

“Kappa Ebisen 35% Salt Cut”

Kappa Ebisen, 35% salt cut. This product incorporates the demand for “salt” reduction by customers. Recommended to customers who are concerned about salt intake and cannot eat all at once.

“Kappa Ebisen Takumi Amabito no Moshio Salt ”

A further pursuit of the Hiroshima “Kappa Ebisen” flavor. Committed to using ingredients only from the Seto Inland Sea, this snack includes natural shrimp and fisherman’s seaweed salt with each product carefully produced piece by piece.

“Kappa Ebisen Setouchi Lemon Flavor”
